JMC Copper Wire for fly fishing fly-tying. Where is it used? Copper wire is mainly used in the construction of nymphs for fly fishing, and in thinner sizes it can be used in the construction of floating flies imitating insects. The most common use is to wrap it around the body of the fly, leaving a space between each coil, simulating the segments of the insect's abdomen. Copper wire has an additional advantage, which is that it reinforces the underlying material. Another interesting use that is made of this material is to use it to make the body of the nymph as in “Copper John Nymphs”.
